What would you do with it?
After defeating the mighty charging system, and trial and erroring the guage wiring of Bill’s GMC, I went to Larry’s place to look at the ‘27.
you can’t fake that finish.
So we got a new 6 volt battery, hooked her up, and connected the two mystery wires, which made a sound like an electric fuel pump. So I set the spark to retard, the throttle (on the steering wheel with the spark control) to half open, gave it about half choke, then stomped the foot throttle and the starter at the same time. the first 5 second crank got it to sputter, the next stomp it just started! I fiddled with the spark and choke and it smoothed out and it ran by itself!
I went over expecting to check points and other old timey stuff, but no, it just runs. Water pump leaks a bit, and I’ll need to install a fuel pressure regulator to hold back that electric pump a bit, and a switch for the mystery wires. The tires are silvertowns and not that old, so once we make sure the 2 wheel Mechanical brakes stop the car we can drive it!
Any suggestions on where to go from there?
Trying to talk him out of getting it painted. I think this looks awesome, and it’s fairly even over the whole car? What would you do?

I don’t know what I would do, but I know what absolutely would not do - paint it.

It’s not the original paint, but it is very old paint probably from the 70's

What a beauty! It’s not the original paint so I think whatever he does would be fine.

Unless it’s getting a full concourse resto (which it doesn’t sound like) I wouldn’t touch the paint - looks too good as it is, and fits the car. Fresh paint and clear would just look wrong

If it’s the original paint then leave it. If however it’s not and the car has had a respray at some point in it’s life then I’d strip it back and remove anything that can safely be removed such as windows, panels, etc... and give it a thorough respray.

It is! To make a long story short, my first car was/is a ‘71 4-door, which I still have. It’s been sitting in storage for years, this spring/summer I’m going to get it back on the road. I’m actually going to be doing a post on here before too long to introduce the project, and will post updates as it goes. Basically it needs some normal maintenance stuff and a couple upgrades (like disc brakes; the manual 4-wheel drums are fun and all but this is to be a daily driver again) so I can get back to regularly driving it. As it is now, it runs and ‘drives’, but the exhaust ends under the trunk, and the engine desperately needs a tuneup.
Once I’m driving it again I’ll get into the body work, it needs some new metal/help around the rear wheel openings (of course) and a couple other little spots, but that’s later. Keep an eye out for the post on Oppo (hopefully I get it together sometime this week) with a detailed introduction to the car and the plans for the next couple months of weekends.

You have to do the ultimate test of any car or motorcycle - take it through the McDonalds drive-thru.

OMG!! This thing is amazing!! I love the paint. My friend has a 40s or 50s Buick? and he wet sanded and buffed the original paint (chips and all) so its shiny with patina. Amazing look.
